Where Feline Comfort Meets Home Aesthetics

Transforming your cat’s favorite hiding spot into the most beautiful centerpiece of your home.

In 2017, Hulumao began with a single sheet of corrugated cardboard. We’ve blended the rigor of industrial design with a deep love for our furry friends to create cat products that are stylish, sturdy, and eco-friendly.

I believe cat furniture shouldn’t be just a "clunky cardboard box"—it should be an extension of your lifestyle and personal taste.

It all started with an adoption...

Who says a cat’s joy must come at the expense of your home’s beauty?

That year, we welcomed a new member into our family. To make him feel at home, my wife took a recycled cardboard box and cut a simple hole in it. Seeing him excitedly crawl in and sleep so soundly, I realized cats have an irresistible, almost magical attraction to cardboard.

As an industrial designer, however, I couldn't help but feel my home’s interior was being "ruined" by that tattered box with its jagged edges. I thought to myself: Does making my cat happy really have to be a compromise on aesthetics?

If you can’t find it, build it.

I scoured the internet for a well-designed cardboard cat house, but all I found were boring, uninspired boxes. My "designer soul" was awakened. I decided to create modern cat furniture that truly belonged in a home.

I spent six months in the studio researching, sketching, and prototyping. The moment our cat walked into the finished prototype and curled up for a nap, I knew I had it right. This led to a series of cat houses featuring architectural, three-dimensional forms.

We wanted to share this warmth and design with cat lovers worldwide. After receiving an incredible response at our first pet expo, Hulumao was officially born.

Design Inspiration: The Magic of Origami

The soul of Hulumao lies in Origami. There is something captivating about transforming a flat 2D sheet into a sculptural 3D form through precise folding.

This "2D-to-3D magic" not only makes the cardboard incredibly load-bearing and stable but also ensures our products look like pieces of art in your living room.

Not Your Ordinary Cardboard!

A battle of millimeters and precision engineering.
Heavy-duty corrugated cardboard is tough and has a "personality" of its own; it doesn't always want to bend or curve perfectly. We calculate the physical thickness of the cardboard down to the millimeter. If we’re off by even a fraction, the interlocking parts won't fit. It’s a brain-racking process, but this obsession is what gives Hulumao furniture its signature, seamless lines.

Zero Glue, Maximum Fun

Assembly as enjoyable as building blocks.
To protect the planet and save on shipping, we use flat-pack packaging. We set a challenge for ourselves: Can we make assembly easy without using a single drop of glue?

By rejecting chemical adhesives, we developed a high-precision interlocking structure. This requires perfect dimensions to ensure the house remains rock-solid, even when cats are running, jumping, and playing inside.

Back to Instincts: Simple yet Sophisticated

  • Minimalist Design
We strip away the unnecessary, leaving only what cats need most. Our designs preserve pure lines while satisfying a cat’s natural instinct to hide and rest.
  • Ultra-Durable Heavy-Duty Material
We select premium high-grammage paper that serves as both a cozy home and a rugged scratching board. This multi-functional design ensures a longer product lifespan.
  • Sustainability & Responsibility
Durability leads to less waste. We strive to reduce our environmental footprint, keeping the Earth a little greener while keeping your home beautiful.

Loved by Cats, Honored by Experts

Beyond the love from the cat community, Hulumao’s original designs have gained international acclaim. We are proud to have won Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards at the prestigious A' Design Award in Italy.

These international accolades give us the confidence to bring our warm, designer-crafted products to every cardboard-loving cat in the world.
